My mom told me painful periods “run in the family”. This is how I proved her wrong.
How I broke the “family curse”, tamed my monthly cycle and brought my hair, skin and metabolism back to life.
My family has a few traditions: a BBQ cook-off every August, watching Elf on Christmas eve with hot chocolate and…complaining about our periods in the group chat.
When I turned 14 it was my turn to take part in this unfortunate tradition and get added to the chat.
That was one of the worst years of my life…intense cramping, mood swings, bloating. I started to dread “that time of the month”.
But that wasn't all. A few months after I turned 18, I noticed some other frustrating changes:
When I brushed my hair each morning, I noticed more “shedding”. I used to have thick, wavy hair but it became flat, stringy and impossible to style.
I never had “perfect skin”, but it got so bad that I had to start using a heavier foundation and primer and concealer and finishing spray.
And I wasn’t just hiding my skin. The “peach fuzz” on my face got darker and impossible to miss.
I had to add 20 minutes to my morning routine just to deal with my face.
That wasn’t the worst part though.
I had always been a pretty good student through high school, but it became harder and harder to pay attention in class.
When 1:30 pm hit, all I wanted to do was lie down and take a nap. I’d struggle through the rest of the day, then get home and crash.
I had to start planning my life around my energy levels. It affected the job I chose after school, how I made (and canceled) plans with friends, my dating life…everything.
While all this was happening, I always came back to the family period chat.
I figured that at least one woman in my family must have found some way to make this a little more manageable...right?
My older cousin told me she dealt with it by drinking a lot of coffee and using a hot water bottle during her period.
I tried that, but it left me feeling worse. My aunt told me she swore by a “women’s health supplement”. I took it for four whole months and nothing changed.
I tried everything they suggested: the Keto diet, acupuncture, special herbal tea blends, “reducing stress” (lol), going gluten free…nothing made a lasting difference.
I can still remember when I reached my breaking point...
I was the maid of honor in my best friend’s wedding. Of course, my period decided to come that same weekend.
I struggled for 30 minutes to get into my dress, which fit fine the week before. As we left for the ceremony, I felt a wave of cramps start to hit.
Thankfully, I was able to make it to the reception in one piece. But when the pictures came back, I had a pained expression on my face in every single one.
Something that was supposed to be a core memory turned into an endurance trial.
I knew I had to do something about my period, and all the other issues that came along with it.
Unfortunately, self-guided research went nowhere. Online, I found a lot of the same unhealthy coping mechanisms that my family had to offer.
That all changed when I took a chance and opened up to a new coworker one day at lunch...
I told her everything: how I dreaded my periods and how I struggled to look and feel my best.
And to my surprise she told me: “same girl, same”. Why was I surprised? Because she had thick hair, clear skin, and she had never once complained about her period.
It turns out that her story was similar to mine. But she had a nerdy side, so she took her issues to Reddit.
Some users in r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide recommended that she try Wholesome Story Inositol.
This Inositol wasn’t another random women’s health supplement–it was something her body already produced naturally.
She just needed more of it to support her hormonal health.
She told me that after trying it out for three months, her periods became manageable.
After six months, she became the woman I know today–gorgeous hair, glowing skin, high energy, and never has a reason to gripe about her period.
You probably have three questions right now:
(1) What is Inositol?
(2) Why was this the thing that finally worked for you?
(3) Is this just another “women’s health” supplement–didn’t you try that already?
Let me answer those questions for you–I did my research before I tried this out myself:
Question 1: What Is Inositol?
Inositol is a sugar alcohol that occurs naturally in your body.
It helps your hormones send messages to the body systems they manage–systems that help you metabolize food, produce new skin tissue, and oversee your monthly cycle.
Do you have that one friend who helps everyone at the party connect and keeps the conversation flowing? That’s the role Inositol plays in your body.
Question 2: Why was this the thing that finally worked for you?
It’s harder than ever for women to keep their hormones healthy.
Stress, dietary choices and even common chemicals we use every day can all negatively impact hormone balance.
You could even say that modern American life is “hormone hostile”:
Convenience foods that are heavy on preservatives and light on nutrition.
Popular fitness advice that encourages women to under-nourish and over-exercise.
Technology that keeps us “on” 24/7, leading to increased levels of stress.
Plastics in our packaging, food containers, clothing and water supply.
Every woman’s hormone issues are unique. Some women spend thousands of dollars and years of testing to identify the specific cause of their issues.
But most women don’t have that much time and that much money.
Because Inositol supports hormone communication throughout your body, it's an effective hormone support for a broad range of women.
Question 3: How Is This Different From “Women’s Health” Supplements?
Many women's health supplements are "custom blends" of several ingredients. They do this for two reasons: to differentiate themselves, and to create a marketing story that lets the brand charge higher prices.
These "custom blends" might not be right for your specific issue. At best, they'll do nothing. But they have the potential to make your issues worse!
These "custom blends" often disguise low quality ingredients, or serving sizes that are too small to make a difference.
How is Wholesome Story Inositol different? It's grounded in science, not marketing. This Inositol checks all the boxes:
✅ 40:1 ratio of Myo-Inositol:D-Chiro Inositol. This mirrors your body’s natural ratio.
✅ 2,000 mg of Myo-Inositol. This is the minimum effective dose.
✅ A rigorous testing process that covers raw ingredients & the final product (ours is a 4 step process).
✅ No other random ingredients. Remember: “blends” are not formulated for your unique needs and might make things worse!
