Really saw an improvement
Been taking 1500mg for over 30 days now and can say that it really changed the game. It suppressed my hunger so I can follow my meal plan without straying. I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence or not but my period was also almost not noticeable (crampwise) this month. Will continue to purchase and use!!

Berberine is a plant compound that chemists call an alkaloid. An alkaloid is a natural substance that contains nitrogen. Berberine belongs to a group called isoquinoline alkaloids. Its chemical formula is C20H18NO4, and the molecule carries a positive charge.
Berberine comes from plants such as goldenseal, Oregon grape, barberry and tree turmeric. Our berberine is from Berberis aristata, also called Indian barberry or tree turmeric. Kew's plant database lists this shrub as native from the Himalaya to south Tibet and central India.
Berberine is a yellow, bitter, crystalline solid. Britannica notes that most pure alkaloids are colorless and tend to taste bitter. Yellow dyes are made from some barberry plants, and one listed name for berberine is Natural Yellow 18. The fine powder can coat the outside of our capsule, so you may taste the bitterness.
Each capsule has 500 mg of berberine HCl, the hydrochloride salt form of berberine. It is standardized to 97% berberine, measured by a lab method called HPLC. Standardized means the maker measures a marker compound so batches are similar. The other ingredients are methylcellulose, which forms the capsule, and vegetable magnesium stearate.
The body takes in very little berberine by mouth; reviews put it at under 1%. The body changes most of what it absorbs into other compounds, called metabolites. Reviews describe the liver as the main place where berberine collects. It leaves the body in feces (stool), urine and bile, with the largest share in feces.
Berberine is found in the roots, bark and stems of several plants. The barberry group, called Berberis, has almost 500 species and is a well-known source. Bark and roots hold more berberine than other plant parts. Goldenseal, a North American plant with a bright yellow underground stem, also contains it.
The name berberine comes from Berberis, the Latin name of the barberry plant group. Merriam-Webster dates the first known use of the word to 1832. The species name Berberis aristata was first published in 1821. Like many alkaloids, berberine has a name that ends in -ine.
Researchers have studied how well berberine is absorbed by mouth and how the body changes it. They have studied how berberine and gut microbes interact. They have studied its effect on cytochrome P450 enzymes, proteins that process medicines and natural substances. Lab teams have also published methods to measure berberine in Berberis aristata by HPLC.

Berberine is an alkaloid compound that naturally has a very bitter taste. Because the powder in the capsules is so fine, it thinly coats the capsules during processing. You can reduce the bitterness by wiping the capsules off with a napkin or tissue before taking them, but this will not eliminate the taste completely.
