Questions and answers
What is myo-inositol?
Myo-inositol is a sugar alcohol, a molecule built much like a simple sugar. It has the same chemical formula as glucose, C6H12O6, but a different structure. Inositol comes in nine forms, and myo-inositol is the most common one.
Glucose is a simple sugar found in fruits and honey.
Where does myo-inositol come from?
Myo-inositol is found widely in plants and animals, and your body also makes it. A lab study of 487 foods found the most in fruits, beans, grains and nuts. In grains it is stored as phytic acid.
Phytic acid is the main store of phosphate in seeds. A US food rule describes inositol prepared from an extract of corn kernels.
What does myo-inositol look and taste like?
Inositol tastes sweet. One history of inositol science says its early name, inosite, came from that sweet taste. Our capsules hold a white powder.
What exactly is in our Inositol (Myo-Inositol) capsules?
One serving is 4 capsules with 2,000 mg of Myo-Inositol and no other active ingredient. A bottle has 120 capsules, which is 30 servings. The other ingredients are rice flour and hypromellose, which forms the capsule.
The Daily Value for Myo-Inositol is not established. Follow the directions and the caution on the label.
4 more questions about myo-inositol
How does the body make, take in and break down myo-inositol?
Your body makes myo-inositol from glucose. Cells turn a form of glucose, glucose 6-phosphate, into inositol phosphate as the first step. Inositol is absorbed from the small intestine. The body also breaks myo-inositol down, and the first step opens its ring.
The enzyme for that step was isolated from pig kidneys. An enzyme is a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction in living things.
What do cells do with myo-inositol?
Cells build myo-inositol into inositol lipids, which are fat-like molecules in the cell membrane. Cells also cut a small molecule, inositol trisphosphate, from one of these lipids. It carries a signal inside the cell. Myo-Inositol is a building block of cell membranes and of the small molecules that pass signals inside cells.*
The cell membrane is the thin layer that surrounds every living cell.
Where does the name myo-inositol come from?
Britannica says myo-inositol is named for muscle tissue, where it was first found in 1850. Scherer first isolated it and called it inosite. Maquenne fully purified it in 1887.
It was long counted as a B vitamin, but its status as a vitamin is uncertain.
What do researchers study about myo-inositol?
Researchers study how cells use inositol-containing molecules to pass signals. They measure how much myo-inositol common foods contain. They study how gut bacteria break down inositol from food. They also track the level of myo-inositol in blood after people swallow it.
These are topics of study. They are not claims about our product.

What is in one serving?
One serving is 4 capsules. It has 2,000 mg of Myo-Inositol. The Daily Value (DV) is not established. The other ingredients are rice flour and hypromellose (the capsule).
How long does one bottle last?
A bottle has 120 capsules. That is 30 servings. If you use 1 serving a day, one bottle lasts 30 days. If you use 2 servings a day, it lasts 15 days.
Why aren't my capsules 100% full?
The density of the powder inside the capsules can vary from one batch to the next due to average particle size and other factors. Because of this, some of the capsules may not be completely filled. They do contain the proper amount, by weight, of active ingredients. Weight is the most accurate way to measure, so you are still receiving the proper amount. The variation in particle size does not impact the quality or safety of the product, and we did not want to add a lot of fillers to make the capsules look full.
What is the difference between this and Myo & D-Chiro Inositol?
This product has Myo-Inositol only. Our Myo & D-Chiro Inositol has Myo-Inositol and D-Chiro Inositol, two forms of inositol. You can see what is inside each one on its label. Talk with your healthcare provider about which one fits you.
Can I take it with other supplements or medicines?
Please use caution when taking this product alongside any other supplement or medication that can lower blood sugar levels, as this combination may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Consult your healthcare provider before use if you use any medications. Please also tell your provider about any other supplements you take. They can help you decide if this product is right for you.
Does it contain allergens?
The other ingredients are rice flour and hypromellose (the capsule). Our products are made in a facility that also processes common food allergens, so we cannot promise the complete chemical absence of any allergen unless listed on the label.
Can I return it for a refund?
Yes. We offer a full refund on the purchase price minus shipping of our supplement products any time within 90 days (up to 3 bottles full or empty) for orders shipped in the United States. Please contact us through our Contact Us page for return instructions. Customers pay the return shipping cost.
